Summer Decorate Your Front Porch!

Summer Decorating should be easy and fun. It's all about moving outside to your porch to enjoy those great summer days. Use color, comfortable styling, and easy entertaining ideas to makeover your porch!

First thing is to clean that Front Porch. Power wash and scrub away the winter grime and pollen from spring. Complete any maintenance that needs to be done... Touch up paint and rebolt any loose posts or light fixtures.

Clean any light fixtures and your front door. Want your porch to stand out? We all notice a brightly colored front door... Paint it a new color, this can be your most dramatic summer project. Don't forget to wash your windows and make them sparkle.

A fresh coat of paint can go a long way:
Make your porch more enjoyable and create wonderful curb appeal. Add a color that complements or contrasts with your home. Whether you select bright colors and strong patterns, or cool blues, greens, and purples, or earth tones to bridge the outdoors with the indoors, color can have the most visual impact on your porch. Refresh those columns and railing, your window trim, and shutters.

Don't forget your porch floor. Depending on the type of floor you have:  paint, stain or add some new indoor/outdoor carpet. Try painting your porch ceiling. Why are many painted traditionally blue? It reminds people of the sky, wards off mosquitoes and has a calming affect.

If you have had the same outdoor furniture for years, give your porch furniture a new look by adding a fresh coat of paint. You can paint wicker, metal, or wood furniture easily and recondition them to look like new!

Comfort is key! Replace the cushions on your outdoor furniture to give you comfort. Pick out a new color that is attractive to the eye and coordinates well with the rest of your decor and paint scheme! Add some ottoman style outdoor furniture... Nothing is better than putting your feet up with a cold drink after a long day.

Porch Accents
Flowers and porches go together when decorating for the summer months! Add the colors you love and coordinate your flower's colors with your furniture, cushions, or other accent pieces when decorating. If your porch is small consider hanging baskets or window boxes to add that punch of color.

Hang a lighting fixture to compliment your space. Many options to go with your flow... A chandelier for a more dramatic effect, an exterior ceiling fan is perfect to keep the breezes flowing, or for more of a mood lighting choose an outdoor lamp or even candles to light your space.

Choose a simple wreath or decorative accent for your front door. Change out the worn door mat with something fresh that will hide dirt or water! Vases with fresh cut flowers makes a beautiful addition to your porch.
