Refresh your kitchen without an extensive remodel.

The Power Of Paint!

For a quick kitchen pick-me-up, Paint the island a new contrasting color and accessorize with this same color throughout the kitchen. (such as dish towels, tea kettle and dishware) Much easier than painting all the cabinets too!

We are loving this cobalt blue island in a mostly all white kitchen.

Are you looking to liven up your kitchen but afraid of the color commitment? Try painting the interior of kitchen cabinets a contrasting color — in this case apple green. Aside from supplying a splash of color, it sets off your dishware too.

Kitchens typically don't have a lot of wall space, thanks to cabinetry, backsplashes, windows, and doorways. Use the limited wall space as a chance to display color without overpowering the room.

Here a sable brown was used and don't miss out on the additional color to the "fifth wall" -- Otherwise know as the ceiling!

Jazz up an otherwise traditional kitchen by painting the floor in a diamond pattern. If you have hardwood and the original wood is in good condition, let its natural color provide the other half of the color scheme. Here a translucent finish of black was used to allow the wood grain to show through.

This was just a few of our favorite ways to add new interest and color to the kitchen without having to do a complete overhaul. What color would you like to bring into your kitchen?

Welcoming July and HGTV Color Of The Month

HGTV has announced on July 1, 2014 their chosen color of the month...
This months selection is not just a color but a pattern in your favorite summer color combinations. This months chosen "color" is....
Vertical or Horizontal, Stripes have an amazing architectural presence to redirect the eye and reshape a room. Whether your style is beachy or classic, This very popular summer pattern trend has the ability to add character for the height of the season. Nothing says Chic, like a dose of Stripes.
We love this guest room makeover that was featured by Jen at Tatertots and Jello. She painted bold wide stripes horizontally on the main focal wall in gorgeous summer colors; Valspar Betsy’s Linen and Valspar Pacific Pleasure.
Stripes gone vertical has elongated this room. The wainscoting is key here to keep the stripes from feeling overwhelming. This design featured at Two Inspire Design.
Change the look of your furniture with the seasons. Slipcovers offer you the opportunity to experiment with trending patterns. Add stripes with our new for summer Harbor Stripes Collection.
Shown: Harbor Stripes Collection on the Sofa and Pillows; Heavyweight Cotton Duck Chair Cover and Pillows in Khaki.
So what do you think of HGTV's choice for July? Are you fond of bringing stripes into your homes d├ęcor? For more info, Visit HGTV Design Happens and read article by Liz Gray.

Key to a well designed home is the Furniture Placement.

Make the most of your home's living space by learning how to arrange living room furniture smartly. There are 3 things to keep in mind when arranging a living room... the flow, function and focal points.

~ Flow: Have a good understanding for the traffic patterns getting in, out and through the room. Keep traffic pattern sensible and accessible for the best use of space.

~ Function: If it's used for both socializing and relaxing, create cozy seating groups. If your living room is used for TV watching and family game nights, arrange seating towards the television and include a coffee table or large ottoman for spreading out games.

~ Focal Points: Fixed elements such as a fireplace or a bay window also affect furniture placement. Arrange furniture to take advantage of a beautiful view or a cozy fireplace. Arrange a living room perfectly by reflecting on the room's features and your lifestyle.
