Slipcover Styling Tips

It's all about the tucking (and other styling tips) that can make your furniture cover go from great to fabulous!

  • Tucking tips:
Save your fingers and try using a wooden spoon to tuck in excess fabric. Tuck the fabric deep into the crevice where the arm meets the back of the furniture and down into where the arm meets the seat cushion. You can also roll up a magazine or use a pool "noodle" to hold the fabric in place. Just fasten the magazine with a rubber band, and insert it or the noodle deep into the furniture's crevices. Now available, The Tuck-Once Grips which are new products that help to lock your slipcover in place! They keep slipcovers secure and stabilized, with no more tucking.
  • Can I mix and match different fabrics?
Yes. In fact, one rarely sees the same fabric all around a living room. Mixing patterns and textures is a wonderful way to get a professional decorator look in your living room. Sure Fit's furniture cover collection is designed to make mixing and matching easy: from stripes and florals to bold and light colors. Not sure what you would like? Order a few Swatches and determine which look would work best in your living space.
  • How do I remove wrinkles?
To avoid wrinkles after laundering, just pull the cover out of the dryer once the cycle is complete and immediately place it on the furniture. If your cover gets wrinkled in storage, simply toss it in the dryer with a damp cloth on low heat for ten minutes to remove the wrinkles. Do not tumble dry fabrics that have instructions to line dry. You can also use a hand-held steamer.
  • Will furniture covers fit furniture with thin/wooden arms?
With a little bit of creativity, our furniture covers can fit over most thin-armed furniture. Wrap inexpensive polyester batting from a craft store on the arms to pad them. Secure with string or Velcro. They will be completely hidden under your furniture cover.
  • How can you apply furniture covers to leather furniture?
We suggest that you cover the furniture with non-skid rug padding. This helps prevent the cover from sliding on the leather's slippery surface.
  • Will furniture covers fit furniture with loose back pillows?
As long as your furniture measurements fall within our standard requirements, simply slip your cover right over the furniture and the pillows. You may have to adjust the pillows by overlapping them or removing a pillow or two depending on the look you want to achieve. There are separate seat slipcovers which with our universal seat cover, place up to three cushions in one continuous cushion cover, zip close and enjoy a semi-custom look! Last, our three piece slipcover is designed with a separate cushion cover and a back cushion cover for a custom-made look. Both the seat cushion and back cushion cover can accommodate up to 3 cushions measuring up to 72 inches wide.

Follow some of these tips, or if you have suggestions of your own... Please leave a comment below. We are always looking for easy solutions to fit your needs.

Liven And Brighten Up Your Space!

Ways To Achieve A More Lively And Brightened Room!

~First things you need to do is open the window treatments and let the light in!

~Declutter: incorporate minimalist design in making a brighter, and more calming and comfortable space for yourself.

~Pick a new bright paint color (one that makes you feel happy when you see it) You may want to create a feature wall with wall paper. If teal is your focus color, find it on throw pillows, picture frames, and area rugs.

~Windows without window treatments just look bare. Choose a bright color that you love or a bold pattern.

~Add bright throw pillows and a cuddly throw.

~Adding a rug to your floor will warm up the space and make it more cozy. Use a different combination of sizes, shapes, and textures. If you looking for a WOW factor, find a rug with animal print.

~Change the look of your furniture... add color and texture with slipcovers.

~Proper lighting in a room is essential. Add interesting lamps, overhead lights, and lighting over your favorite pieces of wall art. Add a plant in the corner of your room and some twinkly lights.

~If your pocketbook allows: add a new colorful armchair and artwork to spice up the color in the room.

Even if your walls are neutral and your furniture brown...  you can liven up the space with a few simple touches.

Don't forget your outdoor space:

~Add some new decorative lighting (very attractive for the evening hours)

~A fountain, the calming sounds to enhance the tranquility and peacefulness of your outdoor living areas and patios.

~Fire pits (Add your own Adirondack chairs and cozy blankets)

~New colorful outdoor cushions for added comfort and beauty to the eyes.

~Planters filled with brightly colored flowers.

~Add a hammock for those lazy days of lounging with a lemonade :)

What is Eclectic Style?

"The blend of styles and mixing of elements from different time periods."

When Eclectic applies to the design world it means a blend of styles of furnishings. This meaning you like a bit of this, and a bit of that. Eclectic interior design is considered when you can’t choose one style and enjoy many styles. These rooms should feature pieces with some commonalities to create harmony within the design. ~A planned design. No need to be boring but a controlled contrast, fabrics should harmonize. A shared component to tie everything together. When combining various furnishings, they should relate to each other in color, pattern, scale, texture, finish, or shape.

You may have inherited furnishings from family or enjoy many different styles. It doesn't matter if you prefer modern, country, contemporary or traditional ~eclecticism can be applied successfully. Accomplish an eclectic style that is uniquely your own.

If you are looking to blend your furnishings and unite your style the easiest and most cost effective way to bring cohesion to a variety of furnishings is to use paint. Painting different styles of furniture in the same color or tone, you bring unity to the space. This keeps any one piece from standing out as different! Another way to bring unity is with fabric. A Slipcover in the same fabric can make a traditional chair and a contemporary sofa with straight lines work quite well together. Coordinating fabrics in curtains and pillows will also bring a sense of unity to your room.

Eclectic style is about mixing rather than matching... combining! A highly individualized style and is easily changed. There are no strict rules for decorating in an eclectic style, be creative and achieve a look that is fresh and like no other!
