Choosing A Paint Color To Personalize Your Front Door

One of the most eye-catching ways to boost your home's curb appeal is to add a new fun color to the front door. It's the focal point to your front entry and is what welcomes your guests inside. The question is "What color will look best on my front door"? Here is a great place to let your personality shine!

Will you pick a seasonal trendy color or choose more of a neutral or the basic chosen colors for doors (white, black, red, green)? Also, will you choose a high-gloss paint with a shine and easy cleaning or a matte that will be a bit duller but perfect for the non-showy type. Take a step back and take a look at your home's exterior. Pick a color that will mix with the trim color and brick, stone or siding that frame it.

Last but not least, The Wood Door: for those that would never consider putting paint on the front door.

Bring visual interest to the front door by painting the trim a fun new color and lay down a new door mat and potted plants.

Are you planning to paint your front door yourself? Here are a few tips from the DIY Network: Remove and clean the door, prep the door, apply primer and last painting the door.

Sometimes little changes can make all the difference when trying to liven up a drab entry. Few things transform an entry more dramatically than changing the color on the front door. Whether you are more reserved or bold and daring, you can "Wow" that front porch with a new color that suits your style. Toss a few new planters with potted flowers to add a punch of color and a chair or two to offset the color you've chosen.

What color might you consider painting your front door to transform your entry?

Paint Traditions... How much color is for you?

Flipping Your Paint Tradition
When looking for a quick way to add a punch of fun color, Paint the ceiling anything but white...

Paint your ceiling a bright color while leaving your walls white or in neutral hues. Bring the color down into the space with coordinating accessories like window-coverings, rugs, pillows and display pieces.

This room just wouldn’t be the same without that gorgeous warm color of this orangey-red ceiling. It’s just so striking. Painting your ceiling with a darker color will make your room visually feel lowered, giving your space an intimate and cozy feeling.

Paint the walls and moldings the same color but make the ceiling and doors pop with contrast. grey ceiling, neutral walls... a beautiful contrast!

Colorful ceilings look especially great in kids’rooms

Bring 2013 color of the year into the home. Paint the ceiling emerald and work some fabulous green shades into the room. Pillows that speak to you, this room reflects the perfect mix of colors and patterns.

Design Tip: Be cautious when you punctuate the room with color. Color is more powerful then you think. Highlight with well placed color in small amounts to make a huge impact. Follow the 80/20 rule for an amazing but not over bearing result!
(color 20% ~ neutral 80%)

Would you add color to your ceiling? If yes, What color would you choose?

Unique ways to decorate the stairs

Stairs have gained a new purpose in the home. Instead of just being a way to get from one level of your home to another, they are now being used as a way to add style and color to your home. Have fun with it! There are many design ideas that are semi-permanent, so if you grow tired of the style, it's easy to change!

Paint:

A painted striped staircase "runner" can bring bold color. Create a visual punch with the tones you choose, remembering to link the upstairs with the downstairs.

Natural Elements:

Covering or making your stairs from stone is a sure way to bring in rustic textures. These flagstone steps and wood beam add so much character to this entry.

Light it up:

Backlighting your stair risers is an unusual way to put exterior safety lighting where it's needed. Simple cutouts in the risers in any pattern can yield a delightful decorative element while keeping you out of the dark. (perfect for the outdoor stairs too)

Decorating With Emerald Green

We look to the New Year for a fresh start in our personal life and what could be better than surrounding ourselves with new color that is energizing.

Pantone’s color of the year for 2013 is Emerald Green. The new go-to color for fashion, beauty and interior design. Described as “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

Emerald, a statement color that exudes glamour. Now trending in 2013 -- Metallics, gold and emerlad is a match made is heaven. So exquisite!

In The Living Room: Tobi Fairley adds this years color just right with a mix and match of patterns yet the same color scheme. Not over the top but accenting in the furniture and pillow fabrics, lamps symmetrically placed and the subtle pattern in the rug.

Emerald Green furniture is quite a commitment. Consider having existing furniture upholstered or applying a slipcover to affordably get the look you want to acheive.

In The Kitchen Or Dining Room: Add Color Without Having To Redo Everything. Simple design ideas, slipcover your existing kitchen or dining chairs and accent the table and countertops. A decorative centerpiece, table runner, placemats and cloth napkins are sure to do the trick.

A few accents shown above -- window treatments, painted island and fruit bowl and vases in this kitchen that was designed by Tobi Fairley. (WOW Factor: Check out the ceiling!!)

Natural accent pieces: Because it's a color found in nature, emerald works with rustic natural materials, like glass, wood and rope. Add a natural green by potting some plants.
