Floral Design Day!

Today February 28, 2013 is Floral Design Day!

Flower Power
Floral design is an important cultural art form that has spanned thousands of years. Today's a day to enjoy and appreciate flowers in all forms and shapes. Whether they’re printed on fabric, painted on surfaces or arranged into bouquets.

Find out how to arrange this amazing Succulent Floral Arrangement from Frankie hearts fashion

**Did you know in different cultures: When giving flowers, always give an odd number as even numbers are considered to be bad luck.

Bring Spring Indoors: Refresh and restyle traditional furniture in a flirty floral pattern.

Stretch Leanne Slipcover Collection is a room in full bloom: Make this season's "country-chic" look your own. Fill any room with a charming and warm country floral bouquet. Fresh and inviting with designer details like corded edging and beautifully draped ruffled skirting.

Dining Room Design Tips

The Dining Room is often the one room in the home that is lacking square footage. Here are a few tips to help visually create a larger looking space:

1. Keep the color palette monochromatic
2. Furnish with a round table and armless dining chairs
3. Amplify your space; Hang a large mirror to expand the room
4. Hang floor to ceiling window treatments to lengthen the room and keep the panels open allowing you to see the outdoors
5. Choose a color that makes the room feel airy and open

Home Tips On Tuesdays: The Kitchen

Keeping your kitchen cabinets neat and organized can be daunting task. Here are a few clever ideas for helpful storage solutions.

Enter the utilitarian pegboard. Tall pegs, inserted into the pegboard that lines the bottom of the drawer, keep dishes in place to minimize potential chipping and breaking. Plus, the pegs can be reconfigured if you want to change arrangements or get new dishes that are a different size. via Better Homes and Gardens

T-molding designed for wood floor transitions makes a perfect rack for stemware. Just cut it to length, predrill screw holes and screw it to the underside of a shelf.

Use a magazine rack to store pots and pan lids. (Would be a helpful solution for tupperware lids too)

A clever way to stay organized in those kitchen cabinets - Cutting Board Storage Rack attached to the door. Use a single wall mounted magazine rack or Diy with this helpful tutorial.

Use wire closet racks on a slant in kitcheb cabinets or pantries to store soup cans.

Free up drawer space by hanging measuring cups inside a kitchen cabinet. Position and mount a wood strip so that the cups will hang between the shelves and allow the door to close completely. Mount a second strip for your measuring spoons, then screw in cup hooks on both strips.

Tension Rod Solution

Rethink how you use tension curtain rods. Place rows of the affordable window treatment hardware inside a cabinet to keep baking sheets and serving trays upright and well-organized.

Getting creative to put every nook and cranny to use. Hang your cleaning spray bottles to free up shelf space.

Cookie Cutter Solution
Keep cookie cutters from getting lost in the bottom of a drawer by simply stacking them on a paper towel holder.

Give your trash and recyclables a designated, yet tucked away spot. This door looks like all the other cabinet doors in the kitchen, but instead of opening on a hinge, it pulls out to reveal a trash can and recycling bin.

Unique ways to decorate the stairs

Stairs have gained a new purpose in the home. Instead of just being a way to get from one level of your home to another, they are now being used as a way to add style and color to your home. Have fun with it! There are many design ideas that are semi-permanent, so if you grow tired of the style, it's easy to change!

Paint:

A painted striped staircase "runner" can bring bold color. Create a visual punch with the tones you choose, remembering to link the upstairs with the downstairs.

A crisp white staircase with ombre spindles. Working uprights in twos, pairing them off on adjacent steps and graduating the tone from light to dark all the way up the banister. Easy to do with such a striking effect.

Chevron Stairs: Being careful not to make the stairs to busy. The chevron pattern was painted on every other stair riser with alternating stairs painted a soft gray. (coordinating color with the upper levels wide stripes)

Stamped stairs: Add an element of surprise to a staircase. Here a stair-climbing vine in a calming blue hue was applied with a rubber stamp and latex paint.

Vinyl Decals:

Share your family's favorite phrases or reminder of words to live by. Very memorable yet easily removable too.

Natural Elements:

Covering or making your stairs from stone is a sure way to bring in rustic textures. These flagstone steps and wood beam add so much character to this entry.

Light it up:

Backlighting your stair risers is an unusual way to put exterior safety lighting where it's needed. Simple cutouts in the risers in any pattern can yield a delightful decorative element while keeping you out of the dark. (perfect for the outdoor stairs too)
